Leonard Quail

July 15, 1927 — April 20, 2012

Leonard Eugene Quail was born July 5, 1927, the son of Vernon and Mable Shadle Quail. He passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa, at the age of eighty-four.
Leonard was born in Sac City, Iowa. He received his education in a rural school near his home and obtained his GED and continued his education in auto body repair. After completing his education he helped his father farm near Sac City. He entered the U.S. Army on September 20, 1950, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on September 13, 1952, receiving the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal. Leonard was united in marriage to Joyce Stout on June 2, 1956. The couple made their home in Sac City and were blessed with the birth of four children. In 1973, they moved to a farm northwest of Denison until 1984, when they moved to Deloit. Leonard worked at Nobel Manufacturing from 1960 to 1968; then at IBP in construction and maintenance through 1986. He also drove truck on and off in later years.
He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandson. He enjoyed tinkering with engines and fixing equipment. In his leisure time he liked playing cards, especially solitaire; and watching MASH, Texas Ranger, and Bonanza on television.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce in 2007; one daughter, Lynett; one son, Paul; two sisters, Patricia and her husband, Ken; and Phyllis; three brothers, Bud and his wife, Millie; Harold; and Mike; three brothers-in-law, Edwin, John and Bob. Survivors include two sons, Cameron and his wife, Carol; and Conrad and his wife, Tammie; nine grandchildren, Joshua, Jesse and special friend Jenny; Magie and special friend Jerad; Tiffany and special friend Jeff; and Emily; Aaron, and Nick and special friend Donise; Clarrissa; and Courtney; and one great-grandson, Trae; five sisters: Doris Stoffregan; Sally and her husband, Mick; Josaphine; Wilma and her husband, Duane; Elaine; many other relatives and friends.
