Leroy Bumann

LeRoy Fritz Bumann was born September 28, 1924, the son of William and Johanna Iversen Bumann. He passed away at his home in Schleswig, Iowa, on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at the age of 88.
LeRoy was born on a farm near Schleswig, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. He received his education in rural schools near his home. His first job was running the movie projector at the Schleswig Theater. LeRoy drove truck for Ervin Bendixen, Johnny Gosch, Cecil Phillips, Emmet Johnson, and himself. LeRoy served in the U.S. Army from December 1948 - December 1949 and then the Korean War from September 1950 - November 1951, both times as a medical technician. He was employed at DH Dodge Implement and L & L Garage before owning and operating LeRoys Garage. He also drove school bus for 17 years and most recently worked for the City of Schleswig until retiring.
On August 24, 1952, LeRoy was united in marriage to Delores Meseck and to this union was born three children. LeRoy was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather with a great sense of humor. In his leisure time he enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and Dominoes. He liked to garden and he loved all of his pets. He was a 50 year member of the Schleswig VFW and a 28 year member of the Schleswig Fire Department. LeRoy was a sincere Christian man and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters and one son-in-law: Mary Pratt; and Myra McFarland and her husband, Dennis; four sisters: Katherine Schwartz, Minnie Hess, Marguerite Hess, and Lillian Reese; and five brothers: John Cassens; George Cassens, Henry Cassens, Julius Bumann, and Robert Bumann. Survivors include his wife, Lorie of Schleswig; one daughter, Becky Siepker and her husband, Mark of Omaha, Nebraska; five grandchildren: Andrew Siepker and his wife, Jennifer of Chicago, Illinois; Jeffrey Siepker of Omaha; Bret Siepker and his wife, Jordan of Omaha; Mindi McKibbin and her husband, Gerard of LeMars, Iowa; and Patrick McFarland and fiance, Amy Chitwood of Omaha; four great-grandchildren: Sophia, Rowan, Emma, and Addison; one son-in-law, Horace Pratt and his wife, Jenny of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two sisters: Hattie Susie of Cushing, Iowa; and Marie Schwanz of Denison; one brother, Albert Bumann and his wife, Helen of Sturgis, Michigan; and one sister-in-law, Irene Bumann of Schleswig.
