Lloyd L. Rickers

October 14, 1933 — August 20, 2015

Lloyd Lowell Rickers was born October 14, 1933 to Louis and Anna Rickers. He passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Denison Care Center, at the age of eighty-one.
Lloyd enlisted in the Army after graduating from Westside High School in 1952, then returned home to work on the family farm in Westside. He met his wife Shirley Siebrecht while dancing in Lake View, and they were united in marriage on June 2, 1962. Lloyd and Shirley continued to farm in Westside until they purchased the farm in Kiron where they raised their family.
Lloyd was a good steward of the land as he farmed, raised cattle, hogs, and worked for the Ida Grove Soil Conservation. Lloyd was elected in 1992 as a commissioner of the Ida County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was elected Chair and Vice-Chair numerous times over his tenure. He represented the district on the Little Sioux Works Committee, Sioux Rivers RC&D board, and the Hungry Canyons Alliance. He was selected as the Outstanding Commissioner of the Year in 1998. His passion for soil and water conservation was not only shown by his attendance at various meetings and conferences through the years, but by the construction of terraces and waterways on his own farms. He enjoyed many hobbies in addition to working on the farm such as wood working and fixing things. Lloyd loved fishing at Spirit Lake, Okoboji, and Lake View and spending time with his dog, Yeller. He was fond of all animals, especially his many dogs throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Michelle; two brothers, Lowell and Vernon; and one sister-in-law, Elsie. Survivors include: his wife, Shirley; two sons, Clark and his wife, Donna; Mark; six grandchildren: Audrey and her boyfriend Grant; Andrew Davis; Amanda; Anna and her boyfriend Kaleb; Erika; and Jackson ; one brother: Ivan and his wife Linda; one sister, Louise and her husband Ron; one sister-in-law, Lois; many other relatives and friends.
