Lodean A. Schmidt

August 4, 1951 — January 18, 2016

Lodean Arlo Schmidt was born in Denison, Iowa on August 4, 1951, the son of Arlo Henry and Faith Maxine Schmidt. He died at St. Anthony’s Nursing Home in Carroll, Iowa on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the age of sixty-four.
Lodean grew up on a farm south east of Schleswig. His life started out like most country kids: bailing hay, shelling corn, walking beans, and raising livestock alongside his parents. He received his education at the Schleswig Community High School, graduating with the class of 1969. After completing his education, he worked as a hired hand for area farmers, mostly bailing hay and helping with harvest, until 1976 when he became employed by Farmers Feed and Grain in Schleswig. Lodean proudly mixed and delivered Kent Feeds to many livestock farms in the Schleswig area for 23 years. During this time, he also continued to farm his parents land. In 1999, he went to work for Ullrich farms where he drove truck; hauling grain and gravel. He worked there until 2009 when his health began to decline.
On March 11, 1978, Lodean was united in marriage to Christina Lee Comstock. The couple made their home on an acreage near Lodean’s parents. They also lived in Schleswig for a few years before eventually settling on the family farm in 1988. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children: Amber, Angie and Adam. Lodean was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, where he was baptized, confirmed and married. Lodean enjoyed gardening, camping, having bonfires, and fishing in the local farm ponds. In his younger days, he enjoyed riding his 1976 Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. His leisure time was occupied with his family and grandchildren, listening to polka music, watching game shows, going dancing with Chris and vacationing at Lake Okoboji. He also looked forward to the Sundays when it was his turn to usher at church.
Lodean was preceded in death by his parents and father in law Lee. He is survived by his wife, Christina; two daughters, Amber and special friend Joel; and Angie and her husband, Corey; one son, Adam; and four grandchildren: Colby, Colton, Logan and Rylan; mother-in-Law Sharon; several cousins, other relatives and friends.
