Lois Evelyn Buck was born April 1, 1932, in the family home near Berne, Iowa. She was the daughter of Robert and Roberta Mae (Leise) Henkel. On Friday, July 14, 2017, at the age of 85, she passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.
Lois was baptized July 24, 1932, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. She was confirmed on April 14, 1946, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deloit, Iowa. She also attended high school in Deloit, graduating with the class of 1951. She was married to Kenneth Buck at the home of his parents in Denison, Iowa. The couple resided in Denison until 1964 when they relocated to Crescent, Iowa. In 1978 the couple returned to the Denison area, where they remained. Together they raised four children: Cindy, Debbie, Becky, and KR.
Through the early years Lois worked at various restaurants as a waitress and worked as a cook at the YMCA Camp Hitchcock in Crescent. In 1997, along with her husband Kenneth, they formed Ten Point Construction in Denison. At the time of her death, she remained a stockholder and Secretary/Treasurer for the company.
Lois was an avid animal enthusiast. In addition the numerous cats, dogs, parakeets, and horses kept as pets, she enjoyed watching wildlife. Living on property that included a pond and timber, she was able to watch and feed the various birds and turkeys that found their way into her back yard. A special treat was watching the geese that returned each year to the pond to start their new families. Lois had a way with all animals, she even tamed a wild pigeon that made it's home in her barn. Lois also enjoyed reading, golfing, fishing, and traveling throughout Iowa and Illinois to watch their standard bred horses.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; an infant daughter, Georgiana; two brothers, Jacob and George; and one sister, Katherine. Survivors include 3 daughters; Cindy and her husband, Marven; Debbie; Becky and her husband, Michael; one son, KR and his wife, Karla; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild in addition to other relatives and friends.
All memorials for Lois Buck may be given to L.H.A.H. - Pound Fund and sent to Huebner Funeral Home, 1437 Broadway, Denison, IA 51442
