The Public is invited to join the family at St. Paul's Cemetery (Ricketts Road) Charter Oak for the graveside service Sunday at 11:30 A.M. maintaining social distancing.
Lois Louise Duncan was born January 22, 1928, to Nohna and Dora Pithan near Berne, Iowa. She passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020, at her home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Lois was baptized into Christ February 19, 1928, and confirmed March 29, 1942, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. She received her education in the Ute and Charter Oak public schools and St. John’s Lutheran School. Following her graduation from Charter Oak High School and Normal Training, Lois taught in the rural schools and ten years at St. John’s Lutheran School.
Lois was united in marriage to Erwin Bohlmann May 9, 1948, and they farmed for eight years until Erwin’s failing health. They moved to Charter Oak and owned and operated a drive-in restaurant and bakery. Erwin passed away in 1968.
In 1969, Lois was united in marriage to Jack Duncan and they made their home in Denison. She was employed at BoJangles as an assistant manager, manager for the Spirit Cellar Liquor Store, deli clerk for Hy-Vee, shift leader at Lil Duffer restaurant and chief cook at Caf Amour. She retired in 1997 to care for Jack, who passed away in 1998.
Lois was a member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, Sunday School teacher and choir member in Charter Oak. She joined Zion Lutheran Church in Denison in 1969. Lois enjoyed her flowers, caring for her lawn, birds, reading and loved attending her Bible Class.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Nohna and Dora; stepmother Ida, stepmother Verna; her husbands, Erwin and Jack; sister, Dorothy and husband, Ras; sister-in-law, Peggy; grandnephew, Brian; great-grandnephew, Robert; and sister-in-law, Mary Jane. Survivors include: her brother, Leonard; two nieces, Patty and her husband, Mike, and Charlene and her husband, Jerry; two nephews, Scott and his wife, Virginie, and Nohna and his wife, Joelle; one grandniece, Jennifer and her husband, Ian; five grandnephews: Victor and fiance Amanda, Kevin, Taylor, Cody and Ethan; three great-grandnieces: Maci, Mallory and Miah; three great-grandnephews: Kaiden, Michael and Logan; other relatives and friends.
