Lois Marie McCollough was born May 21, 1929, at Schleswig, Iowa, the daughter of Albert and Caroline Eck. She passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-eight.
Lois was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa, and received her education in the schools near her home as well as playing basketball while in high school. Following her education, she was employed at a restaurant in Denison. Lois was united in marriage to Harold McCollough at the Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa, on December 27, 1949, and they settled on the farm where Lois worked hard as a farmer’s wife and “Mom” to their four children. She worked hard and played hard.
She was a member of the Vail Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star, which meant a lot to her with her favorite Bible story being the story of Esther. She enjoyed socializing at book club, card clubs, Farm Bureau and Cattleman’s Club.
Keeping a diary, watching the soaps and Iowa Public Television while embroidering for her grandchildren, crafts, and refinishing furniture were enjoyable pastime activities for her. She was also a talented seamstress sewing many of her children’s clothes. She always kept busy and made many things for their home. Gardening, reading, playing cards, square dancing, roller skating and riding horses bareback were also activities she enjoyed through the years. Although being forthright, Lois loved her family and loved to hear about them, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended many of their sporting events.
