Lonald Ellsworth Patchin Jr. was born November 8, 1947, the son of Lonard and Olga Kogol Patchin Sr. He died Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of sixty-six.
Lonald was born in Denison, Iowa and received his education in the Deloit Public School and graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1965. He enlisted in the United States Navy on August 30, 1967, and served with the U.S. Naval Reserve Manpower Center in Bainbridge, Maryland. He received his honorable discharge in 1997, and attainted the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with FMF Combat Insignia and Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device. On September 13, 1998, Lonald was united in marriage to Janice Gregory, at the Community of Christ Church in Denison. The couple made their home on a farm north of Schleswig, Iowa. Lonald was a devoted Community of Christ Church member, he was baptized on August 22, 1950; ordained as a Deacon on July 17, 1983; and ordained as an Elder on November 24, 2002.
Lonald was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved outdoor activities, gardening and cooking. He also enjoyed rescuing cats.
Lonald was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Eileen Gayle. Survivors include: his wife, Janice of Schleswig; two sons, Scott Patchin and his wife, Susan of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Greg Patchin and his wife, Trish of Tucson, Arizona; one step-son, Garrett Lefever of Axtel, Nebraska; 5 grandchildren; two sisters, Laura Westermeyer of Woodbine and Sandy Ohlund of Harlan; other relatives and friends.
