Loraine Kathern Mcbride

Loraine Kathern McBride was born on December 27, 1920 to Ora and Pearl (Moorehouse) Ogle in Carthage, Missouri.

Loraine weighed only 4lbs. at birth and she slept in a shoe box in a dresser drawer to keep her warm. She was one of seven children and the last to go to heaven. When she was young, she lost a baby sister that was two years old from smallpox.

At the age of 16, she took the bus out to California and married Fredrick Cleo Swindell. To that union, they had three children; two daughters in California and then moved back to Missouri for a short time and had one son. Then later, moved back to Exeter, California before moving to Fresno, California where Fred “Cleo” passed away in 1970.

Loraine loved to play bingo and Mollie made sure she got to play two or three times a week. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and aunt who loved her family more than anything.

Loraine passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021 at Dunlap Specialty Care in Dunlap, Iowa attaining the age of one hundred years and eleven days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her husbands, Frederick Swindell and Bud McBride; four sisters; two brothers; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

She is survived by her three children, Serilda Block, Fern Vanlanningham and Curtis Cleo Swindell; four grandsons, Floyd, Curtis, Leroy and Casey; three granddaughters, Shelly, Tammy and Tracy; one sister-in-law in California, Rubye Sullivan who turned one hundred years old in June; many great and great-great-grandchildren. Loraine was the oldest of five generations and had many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Service is 11:00 AM on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with a visitation one hour prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM Interment is in Dow City Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
