Lorentz Walter Krueger was born May 24, 1930, the son of Bernard and Amelia Krueger. He died Sunday, January 17, 2016 at the Veterans Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of eighty-five.
Lornie as he was known, grew up in the Charter Oak area in Soldier Township. He was baptized in Christ at Immanuel Lutheran Church near his home and received his education at the church school. After completing his education, he began working as a farm hand for area farmers He enlisted into the US Marines and served his country in Korea. After his discharge, he returned to Crawford County and was employed with Bouth and Olsen, a road construction company in the area, then the town of Danbury as their night watchman. He also worked for Art and Robert Krueger in their construction company until retiring in the 1980's.
In his leisure time, he could be found playing the accordion, a hobby he continued throughout his retirement and enjoyed entertaining residents at the local nursing homes. Lornie was a solitary man and found tinkering with small machinery as an enjoyable pastime. Breathing new life into old and worn out machinery was an accomplishment that gave him satisfaction. He occupied time with his cats, as he fed and watered the local cats. When he wasn’t caring for his cats or tinkering, he could be seen attending various antique steam shows in Iowa and Nebraska.
Lornie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lester, Martin, Adolph, Arthur, Edward and their wives. Survivors include one sister Helma; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
