Lou Ann V. Haberberger was born on a farm near Charter Oak, Iowa, July 13, 1927, the daughter of Paul and Elfrieda Asmus Hopp. She died Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Denison Care Center at the age of eighty-six.
Lou Ann lived with her parents and half-sister, Evelyn on the farm west of Denison, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison in 1927. She was later confirmed with her Lord and Savior, in the Lutheran Faith, April 6, 1941 by Rev. C.W. Schmidt.
She received her early education in a rural school near her home and attended the Denison Community High School where she graduated. She continued her education, completing five years of college and receiving her teachers credentials. Her teaching career included the Denison Community Schools and the Zion Lutheran School. After retiring from teaching, she was a social worker at the Denison Care Center for several years.
Lou Ann was united in marriage to Ernest Haberberger in 1951. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons and made their home on a farm in Goodrich Township near Denison.
She was a life long member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and taught Sunday School at the church for many years. Educating children was a passion of hers that gave her tremendous satisfaction. Additionally, she enjoyed the care and compassion she offered the elderly at the Denison Care Center. In her more recent years, in addition to her own family, she enjoyed the companionship of Jobe McClellan Sr. and his family.
Lou Ann was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Shawn her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs Carl and Mr. and Mrs. William Sr., her half-sister, Evelyn, many aunts and uncles and cousins. She is survived by two sons, Gene, and his wife, Marlys; and Lee and his wife, Patricia; eight grandchildren: Shawn, Amber and Erika; Steven, Jeffery and Tricia; Tina and Tammi; Chanz, Cole and DyShawna; and sixteen great-grandchildren; Evelyn’s husband, Harold, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
