Louis L. Miller

Louis Leonard Miller was born in Denison, Ia., October 17, 1920, the son of Lillian Marie and J W Miller, Jr. of Denison. Louis attended grade school and High School in Denison, graduating with the class of 1939. Louis continued his education at Principia College and also the University of Nebraska, Lincoln. Louis entered the military serving in the Army from July 1942 until November 1945 stationed in the Philippine Islands. While serving in the Army, Louis was a marksman and served as a high speed radio operator and earned a Bronze Star, He also served the U S Navy Reserves from Nov. 1945 until November 1948. On December 13, 1942, Louis was united in marriage to his classmate, Ella Patricia Saggau in Denison, Ia. From that marriage were born Katherine Marie, John Peter and Gregory J. On July 3, 1993, Louis was united in marriage to Donna Olson.
Louis was a baptized member of the United Presbyterian Church of Denison, a Mason, member of the American Legion and also a member of the Denison Volunteer Fire Department which he served for 44 years. While on the Fire Department, Louis served as Secretary and also as an Asst. Chief. Louis also served as a member of the Denison City Council. Louis worked for his father J W Miller, Jr at Miller Abstract and Loan in 1946, purchasing that business and McHenry Abstract and Loan in 1960 changing the name to McHenry-Miller Abstracters and retiring from that office in 1981. Louis continued helping out at the office and doing income taxes for customers for several years after.
During his life, Louis enjoyed boating at Lake View, hunting with his family, traveling and riding his motorcycle which he did until age 88. He also enjoyed playing the Tuba with his wife Donna at the various nursing homes in the area.
Louis passed away peacefully March 25, 2015 at Eventide here in Denison after attaining the age of 94 years 5 months and 8 days. Louis is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia, his mother Lillian, father, JW Jr., his brother Richard and his sister Waldine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna; daughter, Katherine and her husband Linn; son John, and his daughters, Amy and husband Adam and their daughters Ella and Brynlee, daughter Kristi and her husband Jeff; son Gregory and special friend Lori, and his daughter Stephanie and husband Phil, and their sons Declan and Jackson; and son Daniel; and a host of other relatives and friends.
