Lucille Ernestine Curnyn was born April 29, 1926, in Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Jerome and Ernestine Slechta. She passed away Monday, October 8, 2018, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-two.
Lucy received her education in the Denison Community Schools and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1945. She was united in marriage to Paul Curnyn November 27, 1948, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple farmed west of Denison and in the late 60's moved into Denison. Her years of employment were spent at the telephone company as a telephone operator, J.C. Penney, cooking at the high school and baking at Broadway Bakery and then at the Hy-Vee bakery.
She and Paul enjoyed vacationing in Colorado and wintering in Texas at Weslaco and around the Rio Grande Valley. She also found pleasure in singing in the church choir. Her family was very special to her and she loved spending time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as socializing with friends.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul in 2007; twelve siblings: Mildred, Berniece, twins Leonard and Lillian, Orville, Chester, Loyal, Vurnace, LaVerne, Lois, Shirley and Kenneth. Survivors include: two sons, John and his wife, Alana, and Dan and his wife, Connie; five grandchildren, Kris and her husband, Josh; Tony and his wife, Erin; Corey and his wife, Lori; Stephanie and her husband, Adam, and Troy and his wife, Trista; twelve great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
