Lucille Helena Jepsen was born December 31, 1919, the daughter of John and Josephine Brockman Baeth. She passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-one.
Lucille was born in Schleswig, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on August 15, 1920, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Friedens Evangelical Church in Schleswig, Iowa. She attended rural country school near her home. On May 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to Raymond Jepsen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township, and to this union three children were born. Lucille worked long hard hours on the farm right along side Raymond, helping with the livestock and field work chores, even harvesting corn by hand behind a team of horses, while loving every minute of it. When her children were grown, she worked as a nurses aide at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison and also at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
As a child she enjoyed riding horses and had a favorite horse named Spottie. She and Raymond loved to socialize as they played cards with friends, and went dancing, especially to polkas. They attended many Lawrence Welk dances on the farm across the road from their home place. She was a good cook and also liked to bake, particularly her famous buttermilk brownies. Other favorite pastimes of hers were embroidering, doing puzzles, taking care of her flowers, and bird-watching, with a special admiration for Cardinals. In addition to being a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she was also a dear friend her family could depend on to always be there as a caring listener. She never raised her voice in anger or uttered an unkind word about anyone. Her legacy of kindness and compassion continues to be an inspiration to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in April 2011; and one sister, Lorraine. She is survived by two sons: Loren and his wife, Janice; Larry and his wife, Mary; one daughter, Joan and her husband, Hub; seven grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
