Lula Louise Baker was born July 11, 1910, in Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Emma Kropf. She passed away at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa on Friday September 5, 2014 at the age of 104.
Lula was baptized on April 17, 1929 and confirmed on April 21, 1929 at St Johns Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. Lula was united in marriage to Vernie Carl Baker on April 26, 1933 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stockholm Township. They made their home on a farm east of Kiron. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of 3 children.
Lula was a kind and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her children, crocheting and visiting with people, especially younger people.. Lula also enjoyed mowing, gardening, and canning. Although Lula spent most of her time as a homemaker, for many years she sold eggs and baked goods at the sale barn and cleaned churches.
Lula is preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Vernie in 1985; one daughter, Betty Pope; two grandsons Kevin and Keith Pope; five brothers and three sisters-in-law: Otto Kropf; Arnold and Lilly Kropf; Henry and Marie Kropf; Roy and Adela Kropf; and Edward Kropf; one sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Clarence Jahde.
Survivors include: one daughter, Marge and husband Al; one son, Wayne and his wife Sharon. 5 Grandchildren: Kathy, Kristy and her husband Jim; Lisa and her husband Bob; Denise and her husband Steve; and Diane and her husband Kelly. 3 great-grandchildren: Jason, Justin, and Derick; one sister-in-law, LaMorn; many other relatives and friends.
