Lyle George Hansen was born on March 26, 1932, at Manning Hospital in Manning, Iowa, to Hugo R.C. and Emma Marie (Jentzen) Hansen. He grew up in Ewoldt Township, Carroll County, Iowa, where he attended country school through the 8th grade. He graduated from Manning High School with the Class of 1949.
After high school, Lyle worked various jobs in Manning before being drafted into the United States Army on June 1, 1953. He completed basic training in Arkansas and was later stationed in Germany for overseas duty. He was honorably discharged on May 11, 1955.
On October 7, 1953, Lyle was united in marriage to Lois Struve at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. The couple shared 62 wonderful years together.
Following his military service, Lyle worked at Manning Trust and Savings Bank and later at First National Bank of Denison. He eventually transitioned to a career in sales at McCord’s Real Estate, where he worked until his retirement.
Lyle was an avid basketball player in his younger years and a lifelong sports enthusiast. He especially enjoyed following his son Rick’s golf career and attending local high school events.
A man of faith, Lyle was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and an active participant in community organizations, including the Manning V.F.W. Post 3517 and the Denison American Legion Post 8.
In February 2018, Lyle moved to the Denison Care Center, where he lived until his peaceful passing on Monday, November 25, 2024, at the age of 92 years, seven months, and 30 days.
Lyle was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lois Hansen; his son, Rick William Hansen; his parents, Hugo and Emma Hansen; his brother, Herbert Hansen; his sisters, Marjorie (Bob) Wade and Shirley Wegner; his sister-in-law, Leona Hansen; and his brother-in-law, Glen Mading.
He is survived by his sister, Helen Mading of South Elgin, IL; his brother, Larry Hansen of Manning, IA; his sister-in-law, Gloria Hansen of Exira, IA; as well as extended family and cherished friends.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Denison. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m., with burial at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison.
