Mae Hennings

     Mae, daughter of Harold and Selma (Boger) Lafrentz, was born May 22, 1937, in Denison, Iowa. She grew up in Schleswig and graduated from Schleswig High School with the class of 1955.

     On November 17, 1956, Mae was united in marriage with Valgene Hennings, and they were blessed with two daughters. Mae and Valgene farmed near Schleswig until the early 1980s. They then moved to Denison where they owned and operated Eat More/Play More/Stay More for several years. Lastly, Mae worked at the Ampride Plaza Restaurant, retiring after many years.

     Mae was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith. She enjoyed helping her family show horses, serving on the Crawford County Fair Board, going to Calf Show Days, watching Green Bay Packers football and keeping busy. Mae was a hard worker, and she was loved in her community and cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     On Sunday, January 14, 2024, Mae passed away at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 86 years, seven months 23 days.

   Mae is survived by two daughters: Jeri (Tim) Laubscher of Maryville, Missouri and Kelly (Troy) Rosburg of Denison; granddaughter, Louise (Tanner) Walker of Maryville, Missouri; four great-grandchildren: Audrey, Harlee, William and Luke Walker; brother, Don (Joy) Lafrentz of Oklahoma; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Valgene Hennings in 2005; infant brother, Harold John Jr., and sister, Connie Teut.

     Graveside funeral services for Mae Hennings, age 86, of Denison, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Morgan Township Cemetery near Schleswig. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Memorials may be directed to United Ridge Lutheran School.
