Manuel Palencia was born January 1, 1948, at Puerto Barrios Guatemala, the son of Daniel and Felicita Palencia. He passed away March 3, 2017, at his home in Vail, Iowa, at the age of sixty-nine.
Manuel came to the United States in 1980, first coming to Los Angeles, California, where he worked as a picture framer and subsequently moving to Iowa, where he was employed by Farmland Foods for twelve years. He also enjoyed woodworking and doing mechanical and electrical work, assisting anyone who needed help. He became a United States citizen in 2008.
On June 9, 1989, Manuel was united in marriage to Gladys Gutierrez in Los Angeles, California, and they were blessed with the birth of four children. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather.
He loved baseball and particularly enjoyed watching the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also enjoyed soccer and watching National Geographic shows and Alaskan working people shows on television.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Mario and Tulio. Survivors include: his wife, Gladys; three sons: Hector and his wife, Ingrid; Ricardo and his wife, Kayla; and Mario and his wife, Jemima; one daughter, Karen and her husband, Alejandro; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three siblings: Martin; Julio and his wife, Carmen; and Ada; other relatives and friends.
