Marcella F. Mccoid

February 6, 1925 — September 12, 2016

Marcella Fay (Davie) McCoid was born in Ames, Iowa, February 6, 1925, the daughter of Ray and Florence Mae Davie. She died peacefully at the Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Estherville, Iowa at the age of ninety-one.
Marcella moved to Dow City with her parents at a young age. She helped her family through her school years as her father was a cook and planted as many as 1000 tomato plants. As an adult, she worked in the potato fields of South Dakota, worked at a egg plant, boat factory, and chicken plant and picked apple to make ends meet. She also worked at Farmland from 1957 to 1967. December 5, 1959, she was united in marriage to Emery McCoid at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by the Rev. C.W. Schmidt. The couple settled in Dow City and continued to live there until shortly after Emery died in 1990.
She enjoyed both vegetable and flower gardening, sewing and crocheting her plastic rugs. When younger, she loved to go skating and dancing at the hall in town. In 1991, she moved to Estherville to be closer to Kandi and Raymond. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed caring for her family and looked forward to preparing meals for Thanksgiving, Christmas and 4th of July activities on the farm. She told how growing up they would have fresh baked bread and fresh tomatoes. This tomato love would continue right up unto her death, the gals at the nursing home making sure she got her tomatoes each day.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emery; 5 children, Raymond, Mary, Dale, Dennis, and Mike; one grandchild, one great-grandchild; one sister, Virginia and one brother, Bill. Survivors include her daughter, Kandi and her husband, Mark; twelve grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law; Cleo and Sharon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
