Marcella Keiner was born June 14, 1926, the daughter of Fredrick and Anna Kuehl Garrett. She passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa , at the age of eighty-four.
Marcella was born on the family home farm near Dow City, Iowa. She received her education in Paradise School #5 near her home and Dow City High School.
On August 19, 1944, Marcella was united in marriage to Donald Keiner by Rev. Smith at the Methodist Parsonage in Denison. The couple settled on a farm in Paradise Township, where they rented a farm belonging to Marcellas aunt and began a career in farming. They were blessed with the birth of four sons. They moved to a farm two miles west until moving to Marcellas family farm in 1966. She continued to help on the family farm including milking cows. She lived on the family farm her entire life until moving to the Reed House in Denison.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family and friends knew her to be a totally loving person with a gracious smile and a great sense of humor. She was kind and considerate and always saw the good in people. She belonged to the Paradise coffee club and enjoyed socializing with neighborhood friends over coffee. She was artistic as she pursued a favorite hobby, ceramics. Her other interests included baking, cooking, gardening and taking care of the farm animals. In her younger days she enjoyed dancing, and over the years continued to listen to polka music.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald in 2006; and one grandson, Andrew Lingle. Survivors include four sons: Dennis Keiner and Laurie of Denison; Gary Keiner of Lake Park, Iowa; David Keiner and his wife, Terri of Denison; and Clayton Keiner and his wife, Debra of Treynor, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Garrett and his wife, Pat of Dow City; three sisters-in-law: Berniece Thomsen of Vail, Iowa; Margaret Freerking of Paullina, Iowa; and Marilynn Keiner of Lincoln, Nebraska; many other relatives and friends.
