Mardella Alvena Selma Siemer was born July 7, 1923, the daughter of Huebert and Geraldine Watke Steensen. She passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-eight.
Mardella was born in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in the Denison Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1941. Mardella and her mother Geraldine operated a caf in Denison. She was later employed at Petersen Radio in Council Bluffs while Robert was at war. She was united in marriage to Robert Siemer on November 23, 1944, in Council Bluffs and to this union three sons were born. In 1956, the couple moved to Council Bluffs where they owned and operated Bobs Tavern while Mardella stayed home and raised her family. In 1960, they moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and helped her mother run B & J grocery store. Mardella began working at Aksarben in 1969 until it closed and resumed her same position with Horsemans Park where she worked until retiring in 2010. She also worked at Skyline Villa and the New Tower Inn in Omaha.
Mardella was a loving, hard working wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed horses, football, crafts and recycling. She took great joy in caring for the elderly and helping set up parties for them as activity coordinator.
Mardella was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Philip; one sister, Irene; and one brother, Edward. Survivors include her husband Robert; two sons, Doug and special friend, Diane; and Dan and his wife, Rose; six grandchildren, Laura and her husband, Chris; Carol and her husband, Bryan; Anne; Ruth and her husband Chad; Ellen ; and Philip; six great-grandchildren: Abigail, Jackson, Brandon, Brooke, Emma; and Baby; other relatives and friends.
