Margorie Helen Bruhn

Margorie Helen Bruhn was born January 31, 1944, at the farm house near Ricketts, Iowa, the daughter of August and Helen Schultz Petersen. She died at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the age of seventy.
Margorie attended the Hanover Lutheran School through 5th grade and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. She graduated from Schleswig High School in 1962 and then worked in Omaha, Nebraska for an insurance group for two years. She married Curtiss Louis Bruhn from the Ricketts area on June 27, 1964. Later they made their home in Denison, Iowa. Margorie did babysitting for many other children until their three little ones were all in school. She then worked for JCPenney Co, Dubuque Packing and Farmland Foods until retirement in 2006 after a bad fall at her home.
Margorie was a very caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was an avid baker and cook. She had mastered many of the old farm recipes to perfection and had the best potato salad. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards, dancing, polka music, The Lawrence Welk Show, camping at county parks, and the KDSN polka hour.
Margorie was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, many aunts, uncles, and close friends. She is survived by her husband, Curtiss; three children: Brenda and Benton Birchard of Manson, Iowa; Heidi and Pat Young of Norwalk, Iowa; Brent and Carol Bruhn of Ankeny, Iowa; four grandchildren: Austin and Avery Birchard; Steven and Stephanie Young; and two great-grandsons; four brothers: Roger Petersen and his wife, Maria of Omaha; Gorden Petersen and his wife, Jo of Denison; Richard Petersen and his wife, MarJean of Denison; Scott Petersen and his wife, Karen of Campbell, California; two sisters: Sharon Wellendorf and her husband, Dale of Ida Grove, Iowa; Gail McLaughlin and her husband, Doug of Hubbard, Nebraska; many nephews, nieces and all her close friends.
