Marian Christine Hanrahan was born March 16, 1932, the daughter of Joseph and Bertha Bermel Leiting. She passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at her home in Rochester, Minnesota, at the age of 80.
Marian was born in Norfolk, Nebraska. Her family moved to a farm near Arcadia, Iowa, in the 1930s. She received her education in the Arcadia Community School, graduating with the class of 1949. Marian worked in grocery stores in Carroll and Denison before she was married and at Denison Elementary School as a cook after she was married. She was united in marriage to Leo Hanrahan on April 11, 1959, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of two sons.
Marian enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends, reading, sewing, and making quilts. She loved taking care of her house plants and her cat. Marian and Leo were able to travel throughout the United States together on many vacations. She also stayed connected with people via email and blogging. Marian was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church while living in Denison and served on the Ladies Guild. She moved to Rochester in 2006 and was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 2006; and her brother, Gene Leiting. She is survived by two sons, Duane and his wife, Gina; and Lyle and his wife, Mary of Rochester, Minnesota; six grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Darlene; other relatives and friends.
