Marilyn Marie Petersen was born November 24, 1941 to Albert and Marie (Andresen) Adams in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized on March 22, 1942 and later confirmed on March 25, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. Marilyn received her early education from rural schools in Hanover and Goodrich Townships and graduated from Denison High School with the class of 1959.
On October 21, 1962, Marilyn was united in marriage to Bernhard Petersen at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. To this union, four children were born: Elaine, Colleen, Cheryl and Roger. In early years, they made their home in Denison and later moved to Schleswig.
Marilyn was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She held the title of Treasurer of the Ladies Aid Organization for many years and was also a member of the Quilters and Voters. She loved to quilt, sew and collect ducks and antiques. She had a strong faith in the lord and she loved her family more than anything. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Marilyn passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021 at CHI Health Bergan Mercy in Omaha, Nebraska attaining the age of seventy-nine years, two months and twenty-one days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly and her husband Dusty Rhodes; brother, Albert "Bud" Adams; son-in-law, Dan Gotto.
She is survived by her husband, Bernhard "Bernie" Petersen of Schleswig; children, Elaine Gotto of Denison, Colleen and her husband David Miller of Everly, Iowa, Cheryl and her husband Daniel Miller of Bennington, Nebraska, Roger Petersen and his wife Shannon of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin Gotto and his wife Megan, Jason Gotto, Josh Gotto, Melayna Miller, Damon Miller, Taylor Petersen and Dustin Miller; great-grandchildren, Madison, Cora and Croix Gotto, sister-in-law, Frieda Adams; a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is 5:00-7:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. Funeral Service is 10:30 AM on Friday, February 19, 2021 also at the church. Interment is in the Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Memorials may be directed to the family.
