Marlin Gene Aschinger was born April 28, 1929, to John and Kathryn (Peters) Aschinger in Westside, Iowa. He passed away Friday, April 12, 2019, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine.
Marlin attended Jackson County Number 5 country school through the eighth grade and then attended the Wall Lake High School where he graduated in 1947. Marlin then enlisted in the United States Air Force stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, serving four years. On October 19, 1952, he was united in marriage with Bettie Joan Brown in Paxton, Illinois. Their union was blessed with four children: Brenda, Beverly, John and Jerome. After completing his tour of service, the couple farmed near the town of Boyer. Marlin later worked at the Crawford County ASCS Office in Denison for 14 years until he retired on August 30, 1991. On February 14, 1986, Marlin was united in marriage with Lorraine Fineran and they made their home in Deloit. Marlin became a resident of Denison Care Center in 2015.
Marlin enjoyed farming and through his work at the ASCS office knew almost every farmer in Crawford County. He served as a leader for the Happy Hustlers 4-H Club for many years and was a long-time active member of the United Presbyterian Church in Vail where he served as a deacon and elder. He was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion and served on the 60+ Club Board at Wall Lake. Marlin loved to dance and enjoyed many Saturday nights dancing polkas and waltzes at the Lakewood Ballroom, 5-Mile House or Arcadia Legion Hall. Always up for a drive, Marlin drove for Winnebago, Job Corps, Eventide, Crawford County VA services, and Meals on Wheels. He and Lorraine enjoyed traveling until his health prevented it.
