Marlon Edward Jepsen was born on March 27, 1952, in Denison, Iowa, to Edward and Dorothy (Ackelbein) Jepsen. He was baptized on August 19, 1952, and confirmed in his faith on April 3, 1966, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, where he remained a lifelong member.
Growing up, Marlon had a passion for sports and enjoyed playing catch with his brothers. He attended Charter Oak Schools and graduated with the Class of 1970. Following high school, he received a degree in meat cutting from Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City.
Throughout his life, Marlon faced many challenges. Despite this, he worked hard and took pride in his work. He was employed at Leroy Matthews’ farm where he worked with dairy cattle before joining his brother, Dennis, at ATS Inc. near Manilla, where he worked for 12 years feeding hogs, grinding feed, and serving as a herdsman. When the facility closed, he began working for Wesco, where he transported clients and helped clean schools for several years.
Marlon was a devoted Iowa Hawkeyes fan, especially when it came to Hawkeye football. He also had a deep love for fishing, including an interest in fly fishing. He would often take out his tackle box in the evenings to inspect his collection—boasting over 100 lures. His favorite fishing spots included farm ponds, Black Hawk Lake, and Spirit Lake.
He cherished spending time with his nieces and nephews, enjoying card games like UNO and Kings on the Corners. Most importantly, Marlon had a deep love for Jesus. His faith was central to his life, and he found great joy in talking about Christ and maintaining an active prayer life.
Marlon passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Nebraska Methodist Hospital in Omaha having attained the age of 72 years, eleven months, and 13 days. He was preceded in death by Edward and Dorothy Jepsen.
He is survived by two brothers: Dennis (Pat) Jepsen of Schleswig and their children, Amanda (Alonzo) McNesse of Waukee and Cara Jepsen; and Kevin (Tama) Jepsen of Des Moines and their children, Bethany (Chris) Fee of Andrew, IA, Paul Jepsen and Eric Jepsen, both of Des Moines, and Michael Jepsen of New Richmond, Wisconsin; as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.
