Marvin Fredrich Carl Jeschke, the son of Bernard “Ben” and Frieda (Clausen) Jeschke, was born on June 22, 1930, in Hanover Township near Schleswig. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Marvin received his education from Schleswig High School and graduated with the class of 1948.
On April 4, 1965, Marvin married Ruth Pump at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home in Denison. He proudly served his country, enlisting in the United States Army on May 13, 1968. He was active during the Vietnam War and dedicated 30 years of combined service to the United States Army and the Iowa Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Captain.
Marvin had a mind of his own and wasn’t afraid to share it. A hobby puzzle-maker, he entertained his coffee buddies with brain teasers that kept them guessing. A collector of gold and silver coins, he had an eye for value, whether it was in currency or in life itself. His love for vintage cars was legendary—especially his prized Cadillacs and Lincolns. He often switched cars daily just to cruise around town and take in the sights. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to sell everything from cosmetics to futuristic food, spray foam insulation, and even semi-loads of bat guano fertilizer. Marvin had theories about just about everything—some might call them eccentric, but to him, they were just the truth. One of his favorite proclamations was that vacuum cleaners don’t actually suction anything; a statement he’d defend with the same tenacity he applied to every belief he held.
On February 14, 2025, Valentine’s Day, he was welcomed into God’s care and reunited with his love, Ruth. He passed away at Homestead Assisted Living in Denison, Iowa at the age of 94 years, seven months and 23 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruth Jeschke; brother, Berdell Jeschke; and sister, Delores Riessen.
Left to cherish his memories are five nieces: Kimberly Jeschke aka daughter, Joy Martinez (Terry Soll), Tammy Jeschke, Kayleen (Bob Schultze), and Becky (Richard Hanlin); seven nephews: Keith (Becky) Jeschke, Kevin (Anne) Jeschke, Korey Jeschke (Jen Eason), Brian (Rose) Jeschke, Jim (Kari) Jeschke, Bob (Marlane) Riessen, and Russell (Cindy) Riessen; brother, Darlo Jeschke; sister in law, Marilyn Jeschke; several great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews; best friend forever, Tonya Eller; and other family members and friends.
Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. His funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025, also at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison with burial and military honors to follow in Crawford Heights Memory Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the family.
