Marvin Keairnes

July 22, 1936 — January 10, 2012

Marvin Eugene Keairnes was born July 22, 1936, the son of Ward and Emma Marie Birkhofer Keairnes. He passed away at his home in Denison, Iowa, Tuesday, January 10, 2012, at the age of seventy-five.
Marvin was born on the family farm southwest of Dow City, Iowa into a family of six brothers and three sisters. He started school in the Dow City School district and then attended the Gallunds Grove Country School. In 1949, his family moved to Vail, Iowa where he completed his education in the Vail Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1955.
After graduation he began working at the Tracy & Allen North Elevator and Feed Mill until he was drafted in April of 1959 by the U.S. Army, and stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. He was one of seven brothers who all served in the military. He worked as a driver for high ranking officers on the base and was also in the motor cade during President Eisenhowers attendance at Ft. Richardson, when Alaska became a state. He returned home in March of 1961 and began working at IBP in Denison until his retirement in 1998.
On April 28, 1962, Marvin was united in marriage to Donna Kroeger, to this union three children were born. He was a very sentimental man who enjoyed family gatherings and socializing with friends. He also enjoyed bowling, darts, cards, NASCAR, spirited games, football, fishing, television westerns and game shows. He played basketball in high school and had a love for the mountains.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Robert and Ronald; and one sister Corrine . He is survived by two sons: Jefferyand his wife, Ahn ; Danial and his wife, Crystal; one daughter, Karla and her husband, James ; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four brothers: Vernon ; Richard and his wife, Doris ; Daryl ; George and his wife, Maria (Terry); two sisters: Helen ; and Lois.
