Marvin Staley

Marvin Leo Staley was born August 18, 1930, the son of Frank and Ella (Gaughan) Staley. He died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of seventy-nine.
Marvin was born on a farm near Ute, Iowa. He received his education in Ute and Charter Oak and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1948. After graduation he worked for a bridge crew. In the early 1950s, he started farming with his father on the Staley family farm near Charter Oak, Iowa.
On April 15, 1952, he was united in marriage to Elaine Kenkel at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Earling, Iowa. The couple settled on the family farm where they raised grain, cattle and hogs. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children, Nancy and Randy. They moved to Charter Oak in 1990 and Marvin shared his love of farming with his son, Randy.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Marvins great passion for farming made him a dedicated steward of the land. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, raising muskmelons and watermelons in order to share them with others. Vacationing with family and friends were highlights in his life. Other favorite activities included playing cards, fishing and bowling. He also enjoyed talking about his family heritage.
In his free time you could find Marvin attending the Charter Oak Ute Bobcat games. He was proud of supporting the American Red Cross, having donated 11 gallons of blood. He served as director of the Crawford County Pork Producers Board, a member of the Crawford County Cattlemens Association, and a member of the Charter Oak Community Club. He was a parishioner of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Charter Oak, and a charter member and trustee of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Greteman Council 12487.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy; brothers: Lawrence, Joseph and Donald; sisters Patricia and Beatrice. Survivors include his wife Elaine; daughter, Nancy and her husband, Doug; daughter-in-law, Patty; five grandchildren: Craig, Jim, Amy, Andrea, and Alex; three great-grandchildren: Ace, Ella, and Mason. Surviving siblings include Frank, Jack, Earl, Donna and Judy; and sister-in-law, Germaine.
