Mary M. Hulsebus

October 19, 1924 — March 9, 2015

Mary Margaret Hulsebus was born October 19, 1924, the daughter of Ernest Jr. and Minnie Miller. She passed away Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety.
Mary was born on the family farm near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith January 18, 1925 at her home by Rev. Frese and later confirmed on January 1, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Schmidt. She received her education in rural schools near her home and graduated from the Denison High School with the class of 1942. After completing her education she was employed at Harkers 5 & 10, Farm Bureau Office and First National Bank in Denison. On May 7, 1944, she was united in marriage to Gerald Hulsebus at the Army Air Force Base in Mt. Home, Idaho. Shortly after their marriage Gerald was sent overseas and Mary returned to Crawford County and her job at the First National Bank.
Mary was a very devoted long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Buck Grove, Iowa until the church closed and she transferred her membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She taught Sunday School for many years, held various offices in the Ladies Aid and served as treasurer of the congregation, along with her husband. As age took its toll on the couple their devotion to their Lord and Savior continued with home worship and communion served by Rev. Kurt Kaiser. Mary moved to the Denison Care Center on February 17, 2015.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Jerry and Terry. Survivors include her husband, Gerald; one son, Ernie; one daughter, Janet; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Mary-Jo; David, Mary, Venessa and Michael; Jenny and husband, Kelly, Emily and Abigial; Sherry and husband, Pete, Sean and Will; Joey and husband, Brian, Kelby and Kaden; Shelly and Alexandria; daughter-in-laws: Bev and Joan; sister-in-law, Dorothy; other relatives and friends
