Matt Grell

Mathaus "Matt" Joseph Grell was born September 12, 1954, the son of Arnold and Velma Carter Grell. He passed away Friday July, 12, 2011, at his home in Solider, Iowa, at the age of 56, following a short illness. Matt was born in Mapleton, Iowa and graduated from Maple Valley High School. After graduation he worked for his parents and then for Westendorf's. He also worked for Farmland Foods for 20 years. He loved to work with his hands and could always be found working on old trucks and cars. He also enjoyed camping, flying, hunting, and watching others fish. He was a genuine gentleman. He had a passion for animals, especially horses. He was a very special and caring uncle to his nieces and nephews. In his spare time he enjoyed watching western movies and had a knack for remembering names of actors and the movies in which they starred. Matt was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie; and one infant brother, Daniel. He is survived by his three brothers: Arnold "Butch" J. and his wife, Charlene; Willie and his wife, Luann; and Eddie; four sisters: Cora Ann and her husband, Jack; Sarah and her husband, Rex; Velma and Tina; and Katie and her husband, Mark; one brother-in-law, Ron; and many other relatives and friends. He also had two very special pets, Ginger and Hoser.
