Maureen Marlys Maack was born June 20, 1948, the daughter of August and Renata Alberts Maack. She passed away Monday, May 20, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Maureen fought a 15 year battle with multiple cancers and lived to the age of 64 years, 11 months.
Maureen was born in Denison, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in Christ in Ricketts, Iowa. She received her education first at Soldier #4, country school and then Schleswig Community Schools. Her graduating class was the class of 1966. Maureen was united in marriage to Lyle Meseck on December 29, 1964, in Sisseton, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Schleswig after living in Denison, Wall Lake, and Ida Grove. The couple was blessed with the birth of two children, Devin and Dustin. Maureen attended the Storm Lake School of Cosmetology and graduated with the class of 1972. She began her work at Crowning Creations and then the Stylist Beauty Shop before opening her own shop, The Scissor Hut. Devins death in 1982 was softened by the large family of clientele she tended to daily. She operated her shop until farming moved them back to Denison in the fall of 1988. She then assisted her husband with their farming operation by running for parts, helping move equipment, and making sure everyone was well fed.
Maureen loved life and she was a very social lady. She enjoyed traveling, first with Lyle, then Dustin, then Lyle and the grandkids. One of the many trips Maureen and Dustin took to Los Angeles was via Graceland. She particularly enjoyed Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. Their lives intrigued her with their rags to riches stories.
Maureen loved to work in her yard, tending to her flowers, bushes, and trees. She still had the original Dieffenbachia plant from her mother and made hundreds of starter plants for friends and family. Maureen also enjoyed watching the Food Channel, scrapbooking, playing Farmville, and hanging out with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the organ, playing practical jokes, and laughing.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Devin; one sister, Arbie Maack; and two brothers, Myron and Dean Maack. Survivors include: her husband, Lyle of Denison; one daughter, Dustin Meseck-Ibarra of Denison; four grandchildren; Renata and Emma Meseck and August and Isabela Ibarra; nephew and niece, Jon and Sara Maack, who were like another set of children; two sisters: Janice Kastan of Denison and Ruth Green and her husband, Charlie of Lake View; other relatives and friends.
