Mavis Hobart

Mavis Elaine Hobart was born October 15, 1928, the daughter of James and Lillian Pulse. She passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison ,Iowa.
Mavis received her high school education in Arthur, Iowa, graduating with the class of 1948. On June 7, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leonard Popp in Silver Creek Church in Galva, Iowa.. The couple was blessed with two sons, Steven and Lonny. They made their home on a farm east of Arcadia, Iowa, in 1957, they moved to Westside Iowa, and in 1960 they moved to Denison where they made their home till Leonard’s death in 1986 .Mavis helped on the farm, worked at Eventide, theGreyhound Bus Depot, Midwestern College, and Denison Community High School as a paraprofessional. In 1992, Mavis moved to Mesa Arizona, where she met and married Joseph Hullett ,and Joseph unexpectantly passed away in 1993. In 1995, Mavis married Charles Hobart, and in 2011, due to declining health, they moved back to Denison in 2011. In October 2011, Mavis and Charles moved to Eventide. After Charles’ death in November 2011, Mavis remained at Eventide until her death.
Leonard and Mavis loved to travel, traveling to England, Europe and many states in the US including Hawaii. They were also members of serval polka dance clubs. While in Arizona, Mavis was an avid golfer ,golfing on a woman’s league, she also did a variety of other activities, as well as being active in the church at the Trailer Park they lived in. Mavis and Charles traveled in their mobile home taking summer trips to Iowa and to Charles’ home town of Seattle Washington. In Mavis’s spare time she loved to walk, swim, and dance. More significantly, she was a devoted and faithful wife, mother ,grandmother, great-grandmother, and one who lived her faith by loving and serving God and others throughout her life. Mavis devoted her life to caring for her family and giving of her time to those in need.
Mavis was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; her three husbands: Leonard, Joseph, and Charles; two sisters in infancy; sister-in-laws: Helen (Les) Sieve; Evelyn (Elmer) Schroeder; Arlene (Ed) Holstein; and Mae Popp; brother-in-law, Vernon (Fern) Popp. Survivors include: two sons: Steven Popp (Lynne); Lonny Popp (Dorothy); five grandchildren: Trisha (Andy);Tracie (Howard); Lisa (Travis); Jamie (Travis); David; eight great grandchildren: Ben & Jack, Henry & Charles, Trevor, Miranda, Alyssa & Quentin; her sister, Lillian; one brother, Howard (Jo); one brother-in-law, Lester (Gloria); many other relatives and friends.
