She loved animals and had a pet hedgehog Ollie and two dogs, Tilly and Lucky. Melanie was an excellent student who earned good grades and it was hard for her missing so much class time as she loved going to school. She looked forward to going out to eat and to the movies with her friends. Melanie also liked to read and was well informed on her medical care, taking an active part in her many doctor and hospital visits as she began her courageous battle with cancer at the tender age of 10. She was very social and reached out to others receiving treatments. Melanie never complained through her journey and she always thought of others even in the midst of her sickness. She was very responsible and mature for her age. She was delighted to share and give to others. She spent as much time as she could with her friend, Adam who was always there to love and support her.
