Melba Jane Kolln

Melba Jane Kolln was born February 25, 1933 to the late Charlie and Dagmar (Jensen) Winsor in Irwin, Iowa. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Irwin. She received her education from the Irwin and Dow City Community Schools.

Melba met Ray Kolln at the skating rink and on September 16, 1949, they were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Denison with Rev. Stanley Krutzwich officiating. They were blessed with the birth of four children: Myrna, Lonny, Monica, and Jeanie. Melba and Ray enjoyed going dancing and every Saturday night they went dancing to the music of The Messengers and Whiskey River.

Over the years, she worked at Anthony's Clothing Store, WESCO, Crawford County Home Health, Eventide Lutheran Home, and Gehl's Grocery Store. She loved her family more than anything, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Dow City.

Melba passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Friday, March 18, 2022, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital attaining the age of eighty-nine years and twenty-one days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray in 2017; daughter, Monica Kolln; great-grandson, Kolton Segebart; and siblings: Howard Christiansen, Lois Anderson, and Thelma Hargens.

She is survived by one son, Lonny Kolln of Denison; two daughters; Myrna and her husband Dan Robinson of Ames; and Jeanie and her husband Kevin Boeck of Denison; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Winsor of Denison; sister, Donna and her husband Vic Schwiesow of Manning; other relatives and friends.

Visitation is 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Celebration of Life is 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Dow City. Memorials may be directed to the family.
