Melvin G. Quandt

Melvin George Emil Quandt was born August 6, 1930, at Charter Oak, Iowa, the son of Herman and Emma Quandt. He passed away Monday, January 22, 2018, at Eventide in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Melvin was raised in the rural Charter Oak area and received his education at Hanover #4 country school and St. John Lutheran School. He was baptized in Christ August 19, 1930, and confirmed his faith April 14, 1946, both at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak.
He was united in marriage to Marian Jepsen April 5, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa, and they were blessed with four children. They farmed in several locations in Crawford County until 1973, when they moved to Denison. Melvin also worked at the lumberyard and subsequently was employed as a custodian for the Denison schools. After retiring in 1993, they moved to Schleswig and they became members of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig where Melvin served as an elder.
Woodworking was a favorite pastime for Melvin as were his pets. He and Marian enjoyed square dancing, polka dances and watching the Molly B Polka Show on television. His family was very important to him and he had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; and one daughter, Cindy and her husband, Keith; and one sister, Lois. Survivors include: two sons, Randy and his wife, Sherri; and Roger and his wife, Dina; one daughter, Susan and her husband, Jeff; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; other relatives and friends.
