Merlyn “Jake” Eck, Jr. was born July 4, 1947, the son of Merlyn John Eck and Maxine Christionsen. He died Sunday, January 18, 2015, at the age of sixty-seven.
Merlyn was born and raised on a farm in Crawford County, and received his education in the Denison Community Schools, graduating with the class of 1966. He made his home in Denison for several years, before moving to Charter Oak in 2004. Merlyn served six years with the Iowa National Guard.
Merlyn was a carpenter by trade. Over the years he found employment at Badding Construction, Loren Schultz Construction, before deciding to become an entrepreneur and forming his own carpentry business. Being an avid outdoorsman, Merlyn enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and walking his dog. He also could be found hanging out and socializing with friends over a cup of coffee at the bowling alley.
Merlyn was a very devoted Christian. His faith in his Lord and Savior led him to be a dedicated and involved member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marilyn. He is survived by one nephew, Mark, many other relatives and friends
