Merlyn Teneyck

Merlyn Ray TenEyck was born May 28, 1944, the son of Lyle and Lucile Detwiler TenEyck. He passed away at his home on October 23, 2013, in Dow City, Iowa, at the age of 69.
Merlyn was born in Dunlap, Iowa. He graduated from Valley High School in Valley, Nebraska, with the class of 1962. After high school Merlyn enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 31, 1965, honorably serving his country in Viet Nam. He maintained helicopters and heroically helped rescue injured soldiers in the conflict. Merlyn received his honorable discharge on May 29, 1968. After service, Merlyn worked for Asplundh Tree Service and Olson Brothers Roofing. He traveled to Texas for a few years and worked with his brother Jerry on a shrimp boat. In the late 1990s Merlyn moved to Dow City and was employed by IBP washing trucks until he retired.
Merlyn enjoyed socializing and having fun with family and friends. He was strong-willed, but well liked in the community. When Merlyn watched television he enjoyed The Price Is Right, Discovery and History channels. Merlyn took pride in his muscle cars in the late 1960s.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Gerald (Jerry) TenEyck and his wife, Yasue; and Ralph TenEyck. Survivors include one son, Jason; his mother, Lucile TenEyck of Fremont, Nebraska; one sister, Sherrie Hascall and her husband, Chuck of Elkhorn, Nebraska; one niece, Nikki of Elkhorn, Nebraska; and one great-niece, Reagan; other relatives and friends.
