Michael Duane Mordhorst was born on August 5, 1957 in Denison, Iowa, the son of Duane and Joyce (Petersen) Mordhorst. He was baptized on August 18, 1957 and later confirmed his faith on April 4, 1971 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. He received his education from Charter Oak - Ute Community School and graduated with the Class of 1975. Following graduation, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College for carpentry.
On May 23, 1981, Michael was united in marriage to Becky Schultz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. To this union, they were blessed with three children: Trent, Amanda, and Kristal. They made their home on an acreage outside of Ute.
Michael started working for Morton Building, Inc. in Onawa. He took up farming full-time with his father and purchased an acreage outside of Ute raising livestock and crops. Through the years, Michael has had several family and friends help on the farm. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute and had a strong faith in his Lord.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed going fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He ran Willow Creek Pheasant Preserve for several years where he met many people who also enjoyed hunting and shooting clays as much as he did. He cherished the time he spent with his family; especially building a tree house with his granddaughters and teaching them all about farm life.
Michael passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at his home in Ute, attaining the age of sixty-four years, eight months, and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Leslie and Patricia Schultz, and niece, Brittany DeLoach.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Becky Mordhorst of Ute; children: Trent Mordhorst and his wife Ali of Kansas City, Missouri, Amanda and her husband Korey Collins of Omaha, Nebraska, and Kristal and her husband Patrick Cavanaugh of Omaha, Nebraska; two granddaughters: Delaney and Marley Mordhorst; parents, Duane and Joyce Mordhorst of Ute; siblings: Pam and her husband Dan Martin of Denison, Gina and her husband George Hull of Moorhead, Nancy and her husband Bob Miller of Bulverde, Texas, and John Mordhorst and his wife Maria of Centreville, Virginia; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law: Cindy and her husband DeWayne Booth of Omaha, Nebraska, Terri Durston of Ida Grove, Scott Schultz of Schleswig, and Sandy and her husband Karl Wittorf of Schleswig; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. The memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 also at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ute. Memorials may be directed to the family.
