Mildred Burenett “Burnie” was born October 27, 1921 to Pete and Lena Schuett in Holstein, Iowa. She was the oldest of 5 children. At 6 months her parents moved to Ida Grove. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. She attended school and graduated in 1940. On August 28, 1940 she was united in marriage to Oscar B. McKenzie. Two daughters, Carolyn Eunice and Lois Kay were born to this union.
Burnie and her daughters moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked in the hospital and received her R.P.N.degree. In 1947 she and the girls returned to Ida Grove where she worked in the Horn Memorial Hospital until April of 1949. On April 30, 1949 she married Edgar J. Krohnke and moved to a farm southeast of Schleswig. A son, Douglas Allan was born to this union.
She belonged to the United Church of Christ and enjoyed church work and was active in Bible school etc. She was secretary of Women’s Guild for 5 years and a member of Hospital Auxiliary and V.F.W.
For the past 10 years Burnie resided in assisted living and was resident ambassador for many of those years. After a short illness, Burnie passed away at Denison Care Center on February 6, 2018 at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edgar, 2 sisters and 2 brothers, and her son Doug.
Survivors include, 2 daughters, Carolyn; and Lois and husband Raymond; daughter- in-law Carol; 6 grandchildren: David, Suzanne, Debbie and husband Cedric, Vicki and fianc David, Sean and wife Josie, and Dylan and wife Kayla; 13 great grandchildren; 6 great- great- grandchildren; 2 sisters- in- law, Dorla and Millie; as well as many nieces and nephews.
