Milfred Fred Marvin Nemitz was born February 2, 1929, the son of August and Edna Nemitz. He died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Milfred was born in Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa and was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, Charter Oak on March 10, 1929, and was later confirmed there on April 18, 1943. He received his education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School. After receiving his education, he helped on the family farm and hired out to other farmers in the area during the summer time and also worked in a packing house in Sioux City during the winters. He was united in marriage to Jeanette Meeves on November 19, 1950, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak. In the spring of 1951, the couple started farming southwest of Schleswig, where they lived for 10 years. They moved to Denison, where Milfred worked for Iowa Beef Packers for 10 years, subsequently building a new home in Paradise Township and continued farming. The couple was blessed with the birth of six children. After moving back to Denison in the early 1990's, Milfred worked for Bohlmann Inc., Gaughan Motors, drove for Job Corp, Denison Engineering, and Glen Lewis Limosine Service. He worked for the Huebner Funeral Home before retiring.
Milfred was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed family gatherings and social events. He enjoyed farming, yard work, planting trees, carpentry and wood finishing. He was very particular in everything that he did. In his leisure time he enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals play baseball. Milfred had a sincere faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Evidence of his faith was displayed through his practicing membership in Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and his enthusiasm as a member of their Boards of Elders and Trustees and other offices within the church that included serving as usher, Sunday School Teacher and choir member. He was very forthright and firm with his opinions.
Milfred was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rodney in 1973; two brothers, August Jr. and Kenneth Nemitz; one niece, Debbie Sexton. Survivors include: his wife, Jeanette; four sons, Randy and his wife, Pat; Ryan; Ross and his wife, Deb; Rollin and his wife, Renee; one daughter, RaeLynn and her husband, Larry; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Delores and Arlene; other relatives and many friends.
