Milo Hugo Schiernbeck was born on May 26, 1947 to Hugo and MaryJean (Bengford) Schiernbeck in Carroll, Iowa. He graduated from Ida Grove High School with the class of 1965. Upon graduation, he served in the United States Air Force until his honorable discharge in 1967. He worked for United Builders and later for Midwest Industries in Ida Grove for over 30 years until his retirement in 2004. Following retirement, he worked as a driver for Lewis Family Drug in Ida Grove.
Milo married Wanda Wade on June 6, 2003 at their acreage near Schleswig. He possessed a witty personality and loved conversation. He cherished living on the funny farm, caring for their different animals and tinkering outside. He never missed a Saturday at the sale barn, and he looked forward to teaching his kids and grandkids how to enjoy the full sale barn experience. His grandchildren allowed the world to see a tender side of Milo that no one knew existed. Milo was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Milo passed away at home, surrounded by his family, on January 19, 2022 at the age of 74 years, seven months and 24 days.
Milo was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Merlin Schiernbeck. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Schiernbeck of Schleswig; daughter, Michelle (Dan) Volkert of Correctionville; sons: Jason (Angie) Schiernbeck of Battle Creek and Shannon Schiernbeck of Schleswig and special friend, Trish Byers; step daughter, Jennet (James) Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; step-son, Robert Nepper of Slater; seven grandchildren: Jordain (Andrew) Taggart of Dallas, South Dakota, Cody Volkert and fiancé, Taylor Kuhl of Correctionville, Levi Volkert and special friend, Taya Gross of Correctionville, Dawson, Chace and Brody Schiernbeck of Battle Creek and Asher Miller of Kansas City, Missouri; siblings: Marlene (Tom) Shaw of Liberal, Missouri, Marlys (Steve) Buckner of Lamar, Missouri; sister-in-law, Brenda Kelly of Amery, Wisconsin; parents-in-law, Doug and Delores Howard of Woonsocket, South Dakota; good friends, Verdene and Linda Kollbaum; and many other relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life is 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Schleswig with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial is in Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig. Memorials may be directed to the family.
