Myron Clair Dettbarn was born March 21, 1922, the son of Emil and Lessie Dixon Dettbarn. He died of leukemia on Monday, October 26, 2009, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, at the age of eighty-seven.
Myron was born in Jackson Township in Crawford County, Iowa. He attended Jackson No. 5 country school for eight years and then stayed on the family farm to farm.
On June 6, 1945, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ewoldt at the United Church of Christ parsonage in Mapleton, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of four children. They continued to farm until 1984 when they moved to Westside, Iowa.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved farming and lived in a great neighborhood in Jackson Township. He enjoyed most sports, especially baseball, bowling and dancing until his health caused a problem. He served on the United Church of Christ council before the church merged and the United Church was built. He then served on the finance committee of this United Church. He also served on the South Crawford Rural Electric Coop board for 16 years and on the Pork Producers board. He was trustee for Jackson Township and a member of the Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jason. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; three daughters: Linda and her husband, Steven; their two children: Tracy and her husband, Joel and their three children, Matthew, Cael and Jadon; and Aaron; Lila and her husband, Kenneth and their two children: Keith and daughter, Kylie; and April; and Leesa and her husband, Richard and their son, Jake; one son, Larry and his wife, Mary and their children, Jessie, Jill and Mitchell; other relatives and friends.
