Myrtle Alice (Prine) Mcvay

July 12, 1918 — October 15, 2012

Myrtle Alice (Prine) McVay was born July 12, 1918, the daughter of Ellic and Tabitha Jennings Prine. She passed away Monday, October 19, 2012, at her home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 94.
Myrtle was born in a log cabin in Rome, Missouri. She received her education in country schools near her home. Myrtle was united in marriage to Orval McVay on October 26, 1944, at the United Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple moved to Denison where they were blessed with the birth of one son. They began the McVay Burner Service Company. In addition to working part-time as a clerk at the JC Penney in Denison, Myrtle was also responsible for all the bookkeeping, accounting, receptionist and secretarial duties at the McVay Burner Company.
Myrtle was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; a best friend to Russell D., whom she called (Babe) and had a special relationship with niece, Geraldine Fullington. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loyal friend and a well loved lady. Myrtle had artistic hands and enjoyed quilting and crocheting. Myrtle also loved to travel, go to the Casino, play Bingo, Poker, and Gin Rummy. Reading was another favorite pastime of hers, especially mysteries and romance novels by Danielle Steele. She tuned into Days of Our Lives on TV and watched her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves, play baseball. Myrtle adored her puppies she had throughout her life. Myrtles faith was important to her. She was very spiritual and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Denison.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband Orval in 1993. Survivors include one son, Russell McVay of Denison; two grandchildren, Tabitha DeCamp and her husband, Martin; and Thaddeus McVay and his wife, Kristin; and two great-grandchildren, Brady Lennon DeCamp and Grant James McVay; all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
