Narlean Keim

Narlean Viola Keim was born May 15, 1921, the daughter of Herbert and Anna Preul Schoenfeld. She passed away at the Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa, on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at the age of 90.
Narlean was born in Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak on July 3, 1921, and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hanover Township, on March 25, 1934. She attended St. Pauls Lutheran School in Hanover Township. Narlean was united in marriage to Howard Keim on June 21, 1938, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township and to this union four children were born. The couple farmed the home place in Willow Township. In addition to being a homemaker, Narlean worked as a nurses aide at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, and also Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. She then went to work for the Charter Oak Community School and the Charter Oak Community Center as a custodian.
Narlean was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed socializing over a cup of coffee and playing cards was a favorite pastime. She liked to watch variety shows and Lawrence Welk on television. Narlean held ceramic classes in her home and decorated delicious cakes for all occasions for many years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa.
Narlean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard in 1977; two sons, one in infancy and Merle in 2004; two brothers, Alfred and Delbert; and one sister-in-law, Marilyn. Survivors include two daughters, Janna and her husband, Raymond; and Marsha and her husband, Henry; one son, Dale and his wife, Janine; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman; and Alvern and his wife, Betty; one sister-in-law, Norma; other relatives and friends.
