Opal Arlene Gray was born May 11, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Jennie Neville. She died Sunday, February 7, 2016 at Dunlap Specialty Care in Dunlap, Iowa at the age of eighty-eight years old.
Opal was born in Moorhead, Iowa and received her education in the Moorhead Community Schools. While still in school, Opal’s younger brother, became ill and needed a warmer climate. They traveled through Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee, then settled in Missouri. Opal worked in cotton fields while she grew up.
On December 27, 1947, Opal was united in marriage to Ervin Gray in Valparaiso, Indiana. They were blessed with the birth of four children. Opal’s married life was spent as a full time homemaker and mother. She loved cooking for her family and saw that her children had something hot to eat when they came home from school. Family was always Opal’s first priority, but she also found time to do embroidery, go dancing, and watch reruns of I Love Lucy and Ma and Pa Kettle.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin in 2010; her parents; son-in-law, Michae; brothers: Niles and Floyd; half brother, Irvin; half sister, Loretta. Survivors include one son, E. Roy and his wife, Sharon; three daughters: Linda and her husband, Larry; Glenda Mae and her husband, Earl; and Kathy; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Darlene; Vera and Gary; Irene; Jane and her husband, John; brother-in-law, Jim and his wife, Joann; many other relatives and friends.
