Opal Bockelmann was born December 19, 1920, the daughter of Bernard and Leone Wieck Kahler. She passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age ninety.
Opal was born in Greenbush, Minnesota and later moved to Denison, Iowa. She graduated from Denison High School in the class of 1939 and went on to college.
Opal was united in marriage to LuVerne (Lou) Bockelmann and was blessed with the birth of three sons. She worked for JCPenney in Denison for fifteen years and then, briefly, part-time at the Ad Visor. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison and the Ladies Aid.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a good friend. She was a faithful servant to her Lord and instilled this faith in her children. She was an avid quilter and crocheter.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lou in 1978; one son, Donald and his wife Sue; one sister, Lorane; and one brother, Roland. Survivors include two sons: Ron; and David and his wife, Phyllis; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mildred; one brother-in-law, Herman and his wife, Bonita; two sisters-in-law: Arlene and Ethel; many other relatives and friends.
