Opal F. Henney

Opal Ferne Henney was born April 27, 1918, the daughter of Guy and Golda Buffinton. She passed away Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa, at the age of ninety-seven.
Opal was born on the family farm in Deloit Iowa. She received her education in the Deloit Community School, graduating from the Deloit High School with the class of 1936. She initially received her Teaching Certificate from Denison Normal School and later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Dana College. On October 16, 1938, Opal was united in marriage to Warner Henney and this marriage was blessed with the birth of three children. Opal was a fulltime homemaker and teacher. Opal taught in a local one room school house, then spent 9 years teaching in Vail. She then continued her career in Manilla where she taught until retiring. Opal loved teaching and touching the hearts and minds of her students.
Opal was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved being the hostess for holiday dinners and family reunions. She was a great mother who supported and taught her children many life skills. Opal cherished the many camping and fishing trips she and Warner would take in their motor home. She also enjoyed all the cruises she took with her sister Betty. In her spare time Opal enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune along with many of the older films. Civic and Community organizations where Opal so freely gave her time through the years include: A.A.U.W, Good Sam’s Club, Presbyterian Women’s Circle, Crawford County Retired Teachers, and the Iowa State Education Association. She was currently a member of Grace Free (Evangelical) Church. Opal is remembered as always being a lady in her actions and demeanor.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband Warner; her parents; infant sister Evelyn; one sister Betty. Survivors include one daughter Shirley and her husband Tom; two sons Donald; Keith and his wife Teri; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
