Opal Maxine Hansen was born February 11, 1919, the daughter of Charles and Cora Brogden Cose. She passed away Monday, April 16, 2012, at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of ninety-three.
She was born in Goodrich Township near Deloit, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ on June 12, 1932, and confirmed on November 5, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She received her education in the Deloit Community School. Opal was united in marriage to Leo Hansen on September 16, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. The couple made their home on Leos family farm near Deloit and were blessed with the birth of two children. Opal helped her husband on the farm and also worked as a nurses aide.
Opal was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and their Ladies Aid. She loved to bake, but most of all she loved to spend time with her grandchildren. In her leisure time she loved to travel read, paint pictures, do crafts, play cards and Bingo while socializing with family and friends. Opal was honored to be elected the Valentine Queen for three consecutive years by the residents at Risen Son Christian Village.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Leo in 1987; one grandson, Jared in 1980; six sisters, Ruby, Myrtle, Mildred, Benji, Alma and Bernice; and two brothers, Wayne and DeOrr. Survivors include one son, Dennis and his wife, Jane; one daughter, Kathy and her husband, Clayton; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Jason and Jennifer and their daughter, Allyson; Brad and Jessica and their sons, Carson and Eric; and Aaron and Melissa and their children, Emily, Charles and Jonathan; many other relatives and friends.
