Oskar John Jurgens was born April 23, 1930, at Carroll, Iowa, the son of Menne and Rose Jurgens. He passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of eighty-seven.
Oskar received his elementary education in the Jackson Township country school near his home and graduated from Westside High School in 1948. On January 13, 1951, he was united in marriage to Margie Rubendall at the Lutheran church in Sac City. Oskar and Margie then began their life together on the farm and had three children, Carmen, Michael and Rose Mary.
Farming was Oskar’s passion. Even upon retiring, he enjoyed keeping up with the farm market with family and friends. Oskar’s second passion was electronics. He started his own company “Rural Specialties”, repairing and selling televisions, CB radios and installing satellite TV’s.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed listening to polka and country-western music and watching RFDTV, sports, especially Iowa State basketball, and westerns on his big 80-inch television. He enjoyed visiting with his family about cars and farming, and often mentioned how he would have liked to fix antique tractors.
Oskar was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margie on February 21, 2017; and one daughter, Rose Mary. Survivors include: one daughter, Carmen and her husband, Bob; one son, Mike; seven grandchildren: Christi, Melissa, Kelly, Pam, Stephanie, Sheila and Timothy; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene; one brother, Manfred; other relatives and friends.
